What is the burial benefit

The burial benefit is a one-time payment to the person or organization that paid for the funeral. Anyone who incurred the costs may receive it, regardless of relationship to the deceased: spouse, relative, friend, or funeral agency under contract.

The payment is not subject to income tax and is not counted when calculating other benefits. It compensates expenses already paid, not an advance — so keep receipts, the agency contract, and payment confirmations.

In Adler and Sochi the procedure is the same across the region: apply to SFR, the deceased's employer, or the military commissariat — depending on the deceased's status.

Benefit amount in 2025

The base burial benefit in 2025 is 9,135.37 rubles. The amount is indexed annually; confirm the current figure at SFR or with your funeral agent when processing.

Higher amounts apply to Great Patriotic War veterans, Leningrad siege survivors, and Heroes of Russia. Some regions offer additional local payments — in Krasnodar Krai, check with your local SFR office.

The benefit covers part of funeral costs. The full ceremony is usually more than the base payment — the agent will provide an estimate in advance and explain which documents are needed for reimbursement.

Where to apply in Adler and Sochi

If the deceased received a pension or was registered as unemployed — apply to SFR. If they worked under an employment contract — apply first to the employer. For military personnel and certain other categories — apply to the relevant authority.

The funeral agency will help prepare documents and, if the agency paid for the funeral under contract, can process the benefit on the family's behalf. This is helpful when relatives cannot visit SFR in the first days.

You must apply no later than six months from the date of death. After that deadline, the right to payment is lost.

Required documents

Applicant's passport, application in the prescribed form, death certificate (Form No. 11) from ZAGS, and proof of payment for funeral services — receipts, invoices, contract with the funeral agency.

When applying through an employer, you may also need confirmation that the deceased was employed. The agent will provide the full list for your situation.

Without proof of payment, the benefit will not be granted. Keep all documents from the moment you sign the agency contract.

Payment timeline

By law the benefit is paid on the day of application when the full document package is complete. In practice at the SFR office in Sochi this takes from a few hours to one business day.

If documents are incomplete, staff will say what is missing. The agent will help complete the package and resubmit the application.

The sooner you start gathering documents after the funeral, the smoother processing will be — do not wait until the last weeks of the six-month period.

State-funded burial

If the family cannot pay for funerals, state-funded burial may be available for the amount of the base benefit. It includes a simple wooden coffin, transport, and burial under a minimal scenario.

Terms and procedure depend on local rules. Adler and Sochi follow federal norms — we explain on consultation whether this option suits your situation.

State-funded burial does not mean "without dignity" — it is a lawful way to bury a loved one with respect when the budget is limited. The agent advises on all formats.

Частые вопросы

Can the funeral agency receive the benefit for the family?
Yes, if the agency paid for the funeral and has a contract with the family. In that case the organization receives the payment. We help process all documents.
What if the six-month deadline was missed?
After six months from the date of death the right to the benefit is lost. If the deadline is near — contact SFR or us as soon as possible; we will expedite document gathering.
Must funerals be paid first to receive the benefit?
Yes. The benefit reimburses expenses already incurred. Keep all receipts and the agency contract — without them payment will not be granted.
Is the benefit available if the deceased did not work or receive a pension?
Yes. The benefit is available regardless of the deceased's status. Apply to SFR at the applicant's place of residence — in Adler this is the Sochi office.
